A public health nurse focuses their practice on a specific neighborhood or community area. They strive to improve health conditions within their target community by providing education and treatment aimed at the health issues that are most prevalent within that community. Public health nurses can also build their practice around a specific population group, such as mal-nourished children, HIV/AIDS patients or adults with mental illness living in the same care facility.
