Radiology nurses provide care for patients undergoing radiation treatments such as magnetic resonance, CAT scans, MRIs, ultrasonography, radiation imaging and radiation oncology. Possessing and maintaining an excellent working knowledge of current radiology technology and methods is essential for a radiology nurse. The radiology nurse will be responsible for assisting the radiologist in various radiology procedures by prepping patients beforehand by explaining the process to them, checking their vital signs and administering medicine when necessary. The radiology nurse must also make sure that the patient is healthy enough to undergo a radiation treatment safely. While the radiology procedure is taking place the radiology nurse will monitor the patient’s condition and assist the radiologist in performing the procedure. Radiology nurses must also be able to analyze and interpret test results, understand medical imaging technology and work in a laboratory setting.
