Earn your BSN degree through a qualified nursing program

Many colleges offer qualified nursing degree programs. Take advantage of current nursing job opportunities

A Bachelor of Science Nursing degree is a four year academic degree available in the United States and Canada. This degree is available as a tertiary education, and follows the completion of secondary education entered into after completion of high school. Students who are enrolled in universities that provide post secondary education soon find the courses much more challenging than those at their previous schools. Students must develop skills in independent study as their work begins to focus more on analysis rather than memorization.

Most professional nurses prefer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree because they acquire the skills necessary to make critical decisions as an RN in patient care. Having a BSN degree is also a good position to be in if the individual would like to pursue more advanced study in the future.

The New York University – College of Nursing only requires prerequisite courses for the 15-month accelerated BS program for college graduates. Other baccalaureate programs at the college do not require any prerequisite courses to qualify for admission. The prerequisite courses required to enrolling the 15-month accelerated BS program include the following:

– Anatomy & Physiology I or Human Anatomy
– Anatomy & Physiology II or Human Physiology
– Chemistry with Lab (one semester)
– Microbiology
– Nutrition
– Statistics
– Developmental Psychology (also known as Life Span Psychology or Human Growth & Development)

If a student has a Bachelor’s degree, but not in nursing, they should apply for admission to undergraduate study as a transfer student. If the degree was completed more than 10 years previously, the student may still apply, but some science courses may need to be repeated. Nutrition programs more than 10 years old no longer qualify for credit.

Those nurses who hold an Associated degree or diploma in nursing, and who are employed in a clinical nursing practice, may acquire their BSN by taking online courses. The applicant must also hold an unrestricted nursing license.

Nursing Career opportunities in New York are somewhat limited, but a nurse with a BSN degree will find many more nursing options to choose from. This fact increases the availability of jobs for those nurses with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing as they seek to enter the workforce.
