Advance your nursing career with a Bachelor's degree |
With an expected twenty six percent growth rate in the nursing field by the year 2016, more Tennessee nurses are going back to school to earn their Bachelor Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN). After completing the RN program students have a choice to attain a BSN Degree. Many BSN-level nurses obtain more long term jobs due to the management role of their positions. They are more equipped to handle leadership roles, such as becoming nursing teachers or nursing managers. A BSN educated nurse is also trained to handle more critical and complex patients due to their extensive training. Most Tennessee RNs with a BSN make between $5,000 and $10,000 more per year than less educated RNs. In Tennessee there are several ways to obtain a BSN degree. The traditional way would be to attend school for four years. As with all Bachelor Degree programs, during your first two years you would complete you basic education courses along with a few nursing courses. Your third and fourth year would entirely focus on you core nursing curriculum. Registered Nurses in Tennessee have another option to obtain their BSN. Since most of these nurses are already in the workforce, they choose to either go to school part time or full time. With classes available on campus at night, online, or self-paced, a BSN is usually earned in a year and a half or less depending on the student. There is also an option for students who already have a Degree and just want a career change. These students are generally looking to add a BSN as their second degree. These students need to complete the required nursing courses since all of their general education courses are complete. With so many options available to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Tennessee nurses are in a great position to enhance their careers and credentials. In fact the state of Tennessee has over 30 accredited schools with a BSN degree program in their curriculum. Once this degree is obtained the possibilities are expanded upon. Students can go on to add a Masters of Science in Nursing, allowing them to work as Nurse Practitioners or even a Anesthesiology Nurse. |
