Cardiac catheterization lab nurse has the primary function of performing work using the heart catheterization tool. This catheter is inserted into the arteries of the heart and used to diagnose heart conditions and sometimes used to provide treatment for certain heart conditions. They also implant pacemakers and defibrillators in patients who are suffering from heart conditions. Physicians performing angioplasties, valvuloplasties, stent placements and other catheterization procedures often employ the assistance of a cardiac cath lab nurse. To perform well as a cardiac cath lab nurse one must possess an ability to learn complex technologies effectively. Most cardiac cath lab nurses work in a specialized cardiac cath laboratory within a large hospital or care facility. These nurses can sometimes be called upon to assist in up to 12 different operations during an 8-hour work shift.
