Programs that allow a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to pursue an uptick in career as a Registered Nurse (RN) have become a very popular educational option in Missouri. Most of the available programs offer an Associate’s degree, but there are several that offer a Bachelor’s degree. Students qualify to take the NCLEX-RN exam upon completion of an Associate’s degree program.

Most of the programs are campus based at community colleges and 4 year colleges and universities, but there are some that are online, but require some on site attendance and clinical training at a health care facility. For those in need of financial aid, the Missouri Nursing Student Association maintains a list of available scholarships.

Students may also find financial help in the form of federal aid. For students who are working in the health related field, may find their employer may offer financial assistance to anyone interested in furthering their education.

The LPN to RN programs is typically called bridge programs. They fill the educational gap between an LPN and RN program and allow the student to receive credit for classes taken while preparing to become an LPN. Some programs accept credit for work experience, as well.
An Associate’s degree program will usually take about 12 to 18 months and a Bachelor’s degree program will take 24 to 32 months to complete. The upside to the additional educational requirements, the student will be prepared to take the NCLEX-RN exam upon completion of an Associate’s degree.

Before embarking on an educational trip with a certain school, be sure the school is accredited by the National League for Nursing Commission and recognized by the Missouri State Board of Registered Nursing. The completion of a certified program is a requirement to take the state registered nurses exam.

Applicants, who wish to enroll in an LPN to RN program in Missouri, must hold a valid LPN license in the State of Missouri. The applicant must also be a high school graduate and have certain prerequisite classes under their belt that include science and math in high school and anatomy and physiology, in the LPN program.

LPN to RN programs are available in part time or full time mode, and with some online programs available, the student has a very flexible choice of learning that is bound to fit anyone’s schedule and circumstances. In addition to general education classes and core nursing courses, the programs also include leadership development and communication skills. All students are required to participate in clinical training, no matter if part time, full time or online classes are being taken. Online students may be required to find their own clinical training facilities.
