Earn your BSN degree and become a Registered Nurse

When you make the decision to advance from LPN to RN, your present status of employment and lifestyle will most likely play a major role in choosing the correct educational program. The field of nursing requires completion of certain amount of clinical practice and only some of the curriculum can be completed via Internet. Although many schools offer online programs, the future RNs may be required to find the clinical settings on their own to obtain their degree. Whether full-time or part-time, the transition from LPN to RN may take up to two years as it depends on the institution you choose. Each nursing school has different curriculums and an extensive research should be done prior making final decision.

Generally the bridge programs are easy to enter but require diligence and focus in order to graduate. The programs are intense and they are concentrated on providing a rigorous curriculum. However, the extreme need for nursing professionals has been recognized nationwide and several scholarships and grants programs have been created to aid the aspiring nurses in their transition to higher levels.

Presently most nurses are employed at over 200 hospitals around the state of Illinois. The average salary meets the national criteria within this field. This state requires 20 continuing education credits for annual renewal of the nursing license. Several educational institutions offer nursing bridge programs. Most of them provide financial arrangements to attract more potential applicants.

Upon graduating with the RN degree a wide range of job opportunities is available spanning from private assignments into research and education. The state of Illinois has improved their efforts in providing more nursing programs. Over 20 schools are now offering LPN to RN and ADN to BSN educational venues of advancing the nursing careers. Some of the state’s universities accept up to 15 credits for aspiring LPNs and offer accelerated summer nursing programs for students otherwise engaged throughout the year. The program typically requires completing 117 credits to obtain baccalaureate nursing degree that may lead into advanced health care opportunities.

The ladder program is also available. This venue of education will allow the students to complete their associate degree and RN licensure. The concept of ladder advancement allows the LPNs to work while attending school. Entering this type of program ensures high pass rate for Illinois state exams and preparation to provide supervised care for community health care based patients. Many nursing colleges in Illinois also offer fast-track options such as articulation programs where the classes are held during the day and the clinical practice made available during the evenings and weekends.
