Rehabilitation nurses focus their practice on caring for patients with long term physical disabilities. They help their patients understand their disability, create a recovery plan to help their patients improve their condition or complete a full recovery if possible. While the patients are going through the recovery process the rehabilitation nurse will help them learn how to cope with their disability and deal with the resulting frustrations. A large part of the rehabilitation nurses job is to educate the patients family about their disability and what its limitations are. If the family understands the patients disability they will be able to provide better support for the patient. Rehabilitation nurses possess a high level of patience and fill an important role in the medical community by helping people recover from debilitating injuries. Employment settings for rehabilitation nurses include large hospitals, long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities, home health care, rehabilitation centers and private doctors offices.
