An occupational health nurse is in charge of providing emergency medical services to help reduce and treat injuries and illnesses in the workplace. Occupational health nurses must possess a strong understanding of both nursing and business to be successful in their positions. A large aspect of an occupational health nurses job is prevention. They can educate employees about diseases, injury prevention methods and health and safety standards to reduce the overall risk. Occupational health nurses review working environments along with employers and provide recommendations on how to improve health and safety conditions. The occupational health nurse also works with the employees to assess their medical condition, treat illnesses, provide health care, perform physical exams, review medical test results and review their medical histories.
