Earn your BSN degree and become a Registered Nurse

LPN to RN programs helps LPNs to gain further education and training in nursing and eventually become a registered nurse. Most California LPN to RN programs are available in bachelor degree and associate degree level. The associate degree LPN to RN programs helps the LPN to gain more comprehensive skills in nursing and widen their medical experience. The associate program takes one to two years to finish and furnishes the LPNs with the skills needed to work in various healthcare settings such as doctor’s offices, hospitals and nursing homes.

Most vocational training schools and universities within California offer this LPN to RN associate degree program. To qualify to join the LPN to RN associate degree program, you must be a licensed LPN. LPN licensure is given after completing the LPN program and passing the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurse. Some associate degree programs requires the student to undertake English and biology coursework before enrollment, so make sure you check out with the school. The LPN to RN associate degree program aims at providing the student with general nursing skills and a foundation in medical sciences. In California, these programs cover areas such as family nursing, professional ethics, microbiology, physiology, anatomy, nutrition, children health nursing and pharmacology.

The other programs available in California are the LPN to RN baccalaureate, which are also referred to as bridge programs. These programs will help an LPN to acquire a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree. Most of these BSN programs not only helps a student to become a professional nurse, but also provides them with an opportunity to advance their education in the healthcare industry. The programs take two years to complete, which is a shorter period compared to the traditional four years of most BSN programs.

You must be a licensed LPN to qualify to join the LPN to RN bachelor’s degree program. It is important make an inquiry before enrolling since different LPN to RN degree programs might require certain nursing course prerequisites. The program aims at providing the students with comprehensive training that will enhance their skills in assessing patient needs. The RN is expected to not only acquire leadership skills, but also learn about broader health issues that nurses face during their everyday life. The program therefore covers topics such as health assessment, microbiology, pathophysiology, nursing leader, nursing pediatrics, patient psychology and nursing leadership and management.

Upon completion of the LPN to RN bachelor’s degree program, students gain licensure by taking the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). These licensed RNs can find employment in teaching hospitals, nursing homes, hospitals and doctor’s offices. To maintain licensure in California, RNs are expected to continue advancing their education.

There are LPN to RN online degree programs that take two years to finish. Students enrolling for this undertake hybrid programs as some courses are offered face-to-face while majority are available online. You can access the online courses through an educational server such as Blackboard, where you will find live or recorded lectures and assignments. You will also take your exams and interact with other students using this secure server. However, students still need to attend school for the practical clinical training.

The LPN to RN distance learning programs are offered through several universities and colleges web-based delivery systems. Classes are facilitated through interactive chat, streaming videos and emails. The students gain hands on clinical skills at hospitals and clinics in their locality.
