Advance your nursing career with a Bachelor's degree |
Many four year colleges and universities in Georgia offer the B.S.N., Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree. The requirements to enter nursing school are similar no matter where you are applying. A potential student must have completed the general core curriculum of the school in addition to a strong background in chemistry and biological science. Courses such as anatomy and physiology are pre-requisite along with organic chemistry classes. A strong GPA of greater than a 3.0 is not required, but the chance of getting into a nursing program with a lower GPA is slim. Students with strong backgrounds in academia may realistically expect to complete a bachelor’s degree, the standard four year degree, in nursing in four years. Depending on certain course offerings at certain schools, it may take longer; however, expect to spend a minimum of four years in training to become a nurse. Many schools offer e-learning, via the web, and traditional classes for nursing students. For classes such as pharmacology and medical laws, virtual learning may be the right path for you. Contact the local school or university for more information on their virtual classes or programs. The clinical education must be completed in a hospital, clinic, or nursing facility. This is the part of nursing school where you learn to interact with patients. From drawing blood to assisting with patient transfers, clinical nursing is necessary for the complete nursing experience. Once you have completed your nursing education, you must take the certification test. This test, the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse, or NCLEX-RN is required before a nursing student can practice nursing in Georgia or the nation. A passing score may differ from state to state. Your nursing school’s testing coordinator can help you with registering and taking this important test. Fortunately, Georgia is experiencing a nursing shortage so the viability of job opportunity is very high. Nursing school graduates have many choices for employment from rural Georgia to metro Atlanta and all places in between. Many hospitals offer repayment programs for interested nurses, but it is best to make contact with the particular entities and human resources to get definite answers. |
