Licensed Practical Nurses are in fairly high demand across the country, and Georgia is no exception. Because of this, many people look into becoming certified in the hopes of getting a job as an LPN, but there’s a lot of information to go through on the subject. This is just as true in Georgia as it is elsewhere, which can lead to some people being daunted at just the prospect of finding out what’s required to get licensed. Well, today we’re going to boil at least some of it down, to help you figure out exactly what’s needed. First of all, you need to find a school that’s accredited by the state of Georgia to certify you as an LPN. Luckily, there’s no shortage of schools capable of doing this, 49 currently. Each school has slightly different prerequisites for getting into their program, but you can find a list of all available schools on this page, which will help you find a school near you. After that, it’s simply a matter of finding the prerequisites for their LPN program. One thing to keep in mind is that, while you can certainly complete prerequisite courses online, you cannot complete the entire LPN program online. LPNs in Georgia, just like everywhere else in the country, have to deal with patients face to face. Because of this important aspect of the profession, all of the LPN training programs in Georgia include a clinical aspect, which requires you to be physically present to practice skills. Many hybrid programs offer partial classroom training along with online courses and hands-on skills training. The LPN training curriculum in Georgia takes approximately one year to complete if you are attending full-time. If you plan on attending school while working full-time the program can take two to three years to complete. It does pay off in the end if you acquire the LPN certificate that you set out for and land a position working as an LPN in Georgia. Luckily, it’s fairly simple to obtain your license, as long as you’ve completed your training. You only need a GED or High School diploma, and to pass a background check and a physical/drug test. Aside from the actual license exam (NCLEX-PN), which has a $240 fee, that’s all the general information you need to know. All that’s left to do is find a school near you and get to work on your certification. If you have any questions about a particular school’s program, you can contact that school directly to find out more information. |
