About LPN to RN Nursing Programs

There are several different pathways to becoming a licensed registered nurse (RN). For someone who is already certified as a licensed practical nurse there are special programs designed to build upon the student’s current practical nursing education and bring their level of education up to the standards expected of an RN. These types of programs are also referred to as bridge or transition programs because they give credit for existing knowledge of nursing practices and clinical skills. If the incoming LPN already has an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree they can usually receive credits for their educational achievements towards completion of the LPN to RN program requirements. These programs are only available to current LPNs and provide a comfortable way for them to transition into the role of a registered nurse.

The LPN to RN programs listed on our site all result in a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. The BSN degree track is quickly becoming the preferred professional designation for registered nurses. Many healthcare employers strongly favor BSN candidates over RNs with lesser degrees. With a BSN, the individual can find work opportunities outside of nursing as well since they hold a Bachelor’s degree. Most LPN to BSN nursing programs are offered at a campus school in a classroom format. However, there are a few select institutions that offer an accredited online LPN to RN program.
