A dermatology nurse deals with a wide variety of skin care issues ranging from rashes to skin cancer to plastic surgery. Most dermatology nurses will specialize in a certain type of skin condition. A dermatology nurse working in the burn unit might specialize in providing care to burn victims, including cleaning and dressing their wounds and administering pain medicine to relieve their discomfort. Some dermatology nurses might play a more consultative role in advising their patients of benefits and disadvantages of various skin care procedures. A dermatology nurse might also perform research on causes of skin cancer, treatments for skin irritation or physical deformities.
