Emergency room nurses must have the ability to process information quickly and make solid decisions in high-pressure situations. The ER nurse will be responsible for caring for patients in an emergency setting. The ER nurse must be able to administer medicine, possess working knowledge of life support systems, carry out doctors orders and remain calm in intense situations. Most ER nurses are responsible for performing an initial triage before the physician arrives. An ER nurse must be able to think clearly during life-threatening events and make the best decision for the patient. Most nurses dont begin in the ER, this is usually a career path taken after several years of nursing experience in a more regular hospital setting.
