A trauma nurse provides treatment for patients who are suffering from a traumatic medical event. Trauma nurses must be able to respond and react quickly in intense situations to help their patients. Many trauma patients are rushed into immediate medical care and have not yet been diagnosed or stabilized. The trauma nurse is responsible for quickly analyzing the patients condition and providing immediate treatment to help stabilize the patients condition. Many trauma nurses work in the emergency room of a large hospital where they treat hundreds of patients a day who have suffered serious injuries or are experiencing rapid illness. Trauma nurses will be responsible for saving lives by quickly assessing an emergency patients needs and providing the necessary medical care. Trauma nurses must also be trained to handle highly emotional patients and family members who are distressed in an emergency situation.
