Start your nursing career as a Practical Nurse with a one year training program

Browse our list of approved LPN programs in Virginia (VA)

Pursing a career through Virginia LPN Programs can give you a competitive edge when searching for a job. The medical field is growing each and every day and nursing careers not only make you feel good about yourself, they also provide a living wage. When considering an LPN degree, you will want to think about the requirements, how long the program will take to complete, the type of course work, financial aid and whether to take classes online or in the classroom.

Basic requirements for becoming an LPN in Virginia is to earn an LPN certification which involves not only time in a classroom, but also time learning hands-on. Once you have completed your program, you will apply for licensure with the Virginia Board of Nursing. Finally, you will need to pass your NCLEX-PN test and get your CPR card. After meeting all of these requirements, the next step is finding a job!

Once you have made the choice to become an LPN, you will need to apply to a program in Virginia. Your first year, you will probably take courses in Biology, Basic nursing, literacy, medical terminology, and pharmacology. During the summer you may take a course in nutrition and finally a course in hands on training. Many Virginia LPN programs can be completed in one year, depending on how much time you have to devote to your classes.

Financing your LPN degree is another consideration. You can look into financial aid and apply for grants to help pay your tuition. If you are currently working for minimum wage, when you have completed your program, you should be able to find a higher paying job that will make all of the hard work worth while.

Many students planning to switch careers, or begin a career, debate whether to take the classes online or in a classroom setting. If you enjoy social interaction with other students, an in class environment may work best for you. If you are working and need classes that conform to your schedule, completing the LPN program online may be your best choice. There are many great Virginia LPN programs both online or in the classroom – you just need to find the one that meets your needs.
