Licensed Practical Nurse training in Tennessee is a field that has seen a lot of growth over the past few years. Many people are choosing to begin their careers in health care by becoming practical nurses. Here is some information about what LPN job training and typical job duties consist of:

LPNs provide bed side care for those who are sick, convalescent, or injured. This care is provided with assistance from physicians or registered nurses. The tasks that an LPN can expect to complete include taking vital signs, giving injections, performing diagnostic tests, administering medication, and dressing wounds.

Most LPNs will find jobs at health care facilities such as hospitals, mental health institutions, nursing homes, community health clinics, public health departments, and private homes. In order to be a licensed LPN you must pass the National Councils Licensure Exam for Practical Nursing, after graduate from a qualified Tennessee LPN program. Most LPNs can expect a salary of between $35,000 and $40,000 in the state of Tennessee.

If you are looking to take up LPN training in Tennessee, then you need to have some prior qualifications prior to enrolling in an education program. Applicants must have a high school diploma. A GED is also acceptable. All LPN programs must have a certain amount of hands-on training time where practical skills are taught at a hospital, community college, or technical school. There will also be regular course work to be completed.

The following subjects are part of most LPN training programs in Tennessee: Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Phys Ed, Food and Nutrition, Child Development, First Aid, Anatomy, and Emergency Medical Technology.

Once an approved training program has been completed, you must apply to take the NCLEX-PN exam and then apply for your LPN license for the state of Tennessee. This is done through the state’s medical board. The NCLEX-PN exam can be scheduled online and can only be scheduled once you have graduated from a Tennessee Board of Nursing approved LPN training program.

For some, becoming an LPN can be the first step towards becoming a registered nurse. In addition to your LPN qualifications, you must go back to school to transition to become an RN. Even if your ultimate goal is simply to remain an LPN, you should seriously consider your long-term goals before enrolling in any particular training program.
