Are you looking for a new career? Do you like to take care of others? There is no hotter career field than the medical field. One of the fastest growing careers in the medical field is a Licensed Practical Nurse. An LPN is a professional practical nurse who is able to provide a variety of nursing tasks, but must operate under the direction of an RN or doctor. LPNs work in a variety of different settings. These settings include hospitals, care facilities, doctors offices and private care homes. To become a certified LPN, you must attend a training program. Depending on the school and program you choose, these programs generally last from 1 to 2 years. These training programs can be found at community colleges or vocational schools. LPN students need to have a strong educational background and a minimum of high school biology. Additionally, certification programs are available for LPN specialties in oncology, obstetrics and more. Licensed Practical Nursing courses are available online or on campus so that the student can choose his or her preferred method of learning. LPN training programs require practicals and clinical hours before certification can be achieved. Licensed Practical Nurses provide care at many different levels. They can provide low levels tasks such as helping a patient go to the restroom or more advanced tasks like starting IV drips. LPNs cannot perform more involved tasks such as anesthesia induction or surgery, but they are a vital member of a patient care team. LPNs are often used as floaters throughout the hospital picking up jobs to ensure that patient care is being delivered at the highest level possible. LPNs typically earn a smaller salary than RNs. Throughout the United States, there is a shortage of quality nurses. However, Louisiana has been affected by the shortage more than other states. It has been a constant struggle to fill nursing jobs since Hurricane Katrina. Certified LPNs have plenty of job opportunities available to them throughout the state of Louisiana. Becoming an LPN in Louisiana is a perfect career opportunity if you want to make a difference and love helping people. |
