Start your nursing career as a Practical Nurse with a one year training program

Browse our list of approved LPN programs in Texas (TX)

Everyone has their dream job or career and probably has thought about it since childhood. Many people choose careers in nursing but are unable to complete the curriculum requirements for registered nursing. The LPN or licensed practical nurse works directly side by side with the registered nurse and doctors. They provide basic care such as activities of daily living, medication passes, and wound care. The LPN program consists of class work and clinical work. Some programs can be completed in one year and others may take longer depending on the individual and the type of degree or certification desired.

Texas LPN programs are available for day and night classes. Students will learn to care for individuals in acute care settings as well as long-term care. After graduation, the LPN will be able to go to work at places such as nursing homes, hospitals, doctor’s offices, home health agencies and school systems. To begin the LPN program individuals will complete course study that is required for graduation. This course study will train the individual in Math, English and Science subjects. These classes are necessary in tabulating dosages in medications or documentation on charts. Other classes that are required are Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Psychology, Nursing practices, and clinical.

LPN programs require that future vocational nurses do some of their studies in a classroom setting. Some of the classes are actually held in clinical atmospheres with hands-on study methods. Online classes are available for Texas students, but most still require that clinical study be completed before graduation. Online campus study is available in 4-year universities and through some private colleges. To complete an LPN program in Texas individuals will need to successfully pass and complete each section for credit towards graduation. A one-year program will give the student a certificate with eligibility to test for their license to practice as an LPN/LVN. After graduation, the individual will have the opportunity to continue their education while working as an LPN.

In Texas, a student that completes the LPN program and passes the NCLEX-PN exam will receive the LVN certificate. There are 116 programs at different colleges in Texas. These programs are open to both women and men with some requirements. Each applicant must pass health and background screens, be at least 18 years of age, and have a high school diploma or GED. It is predicted that the LPN career will explode in the next few years with much expansion due to many more jobs.
