They should also have the current LPN licensure or in the process of obtaining one. Most schools also require students to take and pass a pre-nursing entrance test before getting admission for the program. All programs are licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. The program takes two years to finish and the nursing classes consists of courses, such as psychology, pharmacology, child care, humanities, aging population and pathophysiology. After completing the program, the student is expected to take and pass the NCLEX-RN to acquire an RN license to practice in the state.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Texas takes four years to complete. The curriculum in most schools covers classroom training in administration, leadership and management in addition to the general classroom coursework and clinical experience. A bachelor degree prepares the student to take leadership and administrative roles in various health care settings. A BSN graduate can register for any nursing specialty of their choice ranging from public health, pediatrics, gynecology and anesthetics. This will help them in furthering their career in nursing and other medical fields.

LPNs with hectic schedules or family commitments can register for the online LPN to RN programs in Texas. It is very important to ensure that the online program you choose is accredited by the State Board of Nursing. To qualify to join these programs, an LPN must be currently licensed in the state and possess some working experience. Some online programs require the student to have prerequisite coursework in anatomy, English composition, math and psychology. The online coursework covers newborn nursing, nursing leadership, mental health, maternal and child nursing. Students are also expected to obtain hands-on clinical experience by visiting health facilities within their locality. They are supervised by the department members in the health facility and the report sent to the course instructor. The student clinical experience involves visiting different specializations such as pediatrics, surgical nursing, geriatrics, adult health, psychiatric and obstetrics. After completing the program, students are expected to take the NCLEX-RN to acquire a license.
